Mozilla Firefox comes with a wealth of add ons to do everything from downloading videos, saving favorites, checking the weather and many more. They can be very helpful, but if your internet is running slowly, if your clicks are taking forever to get to the selected pages then listen closely. The problem is more than likely “Add On Overload”. This is how you fix it.

 Close all browser windows except for one. In your Firefox browser window, go to the top and click Tools/Add Ons. The Add Ons window will come up listing all of the add ons you have installed. Go through them all and select “Disable”. Close Firefox and re-boot your computer. When it comes back up, go back to Firefox and do some surfing as usual. Do you notice a difference? Is it faster? Do the links respond quicker? If so, then you know the add ons are your problem.

 Now decide which ones you cannot live without and make a list of them. Go back through the motions as laid out earlier and bring your add ons window back up. All of your original add ons should still be listed there, but you should see a tab that says “Enable” where before it said “Disable”. Take your list of add ons you can’t live without and enable them one by one. Close Firefox and restart it after re-enabling each one. Do some surfing after this step and see if your browser speed is still at the level it was after you disabled all of the add ons.

Fortunately, the affiliate marketing industry as a whole has started doing something about this problem. Through discussions in Internet Forums, affiliate marketers have begun organizing their efforts. The general consensus has been that the best way to deal with this problem is to discourage merchants from using adware to advertise their products Merchants either indifferent to or supportive of adware are being exposed by affiliates, thus damaging those merchants' reputations and tarnishing their general affiliate marketing efforts. They are being “blacklisted” for the protection of honest affiliate marketers. Affiliates that were aware of this problem have been fighting back by terminating the affiliate relationship with these merchants and switching to another merchant that doesn’t use adware to promote their products. In December of 2002, the Publisher Code of Conduct was put in place as an attempt at self regulation by the affiliate marketing industry. The code is not a law, but a best practices guideline that the participating networks have committed themselves to. It basically forbids merchants from doing anything, like using adware, that interferes with an affiliate marketer’s attempt to make money using affiliate marketing.
